Minnesota Goalball

2005 Team Awards

(Robbinsdale, MN) – The Minnesota Northern Lights may have ended their season a little earlier than expected but they did accomplish many of their goals. An injury to starting center Sam Jasmine will prevent the team from competing in this year’s National Championship.  “We could have sent some of our players to Nationals as alternates but we really wanted to go as a team this year” noted Coach Vince Mackie.  Thus, the season ended in May with the awards dinner.  Here are the award winners for 2005:

Team MVP - Sam

Sam lead our team both on and off the court. She helped to teach our younger players and she also led by example with her play on the court.

Most Improved Player - Megan

Megan dramatically improved in throwing and defense .  She went from barely getting the ball across the floor to throwing with accuracy and much more speed.

Best Team Player - Anessa

Whether it was being there for Megan or wrestling with Sam or harassing Coach Vince, Anessa was the glue that kept things together.  Anessa learned every position on the floor in order to provide the team help where it was needed.

Offensive Player - Sam

At the New Jersey Tournament, Sam was 6th in scoring percentage.

Defensive Player - Sam

Sam’s defensive play at Center kept the Lights in just about every game they played,

A Hearty Thank You was also given to our Volunteers, Patrick, Michael, Andrew, Jenna and Britney. We could not have accomplished what we did without their help.
